YouTube laces up deal to show NHL clips

Hockey fans will soon be able to see highlights from NHL games on the popular video-sharing website YouTube under a groundbreaking partnership between the company and the league.

The deal, announced Wednesday, marks the first time that a professional sports league has agreed to share content with YouTube, which allows users to upload, view and share video clips online.

"The agreement will enable users to access video highlights of NHL regular season games, which will be available within 24 hours of the original broadcast, in addition to other on-and-off-ice footage," the partners said in a news release on Wednesday.

SYDNEY, Australia - Critics of a copyright proposal in Australia are warning that serious penalties could result from the use of iPod music players and video-sharing sites like YouTube, even if all you're doing is showing yourself singing along to your favorite song.

Electronic Frontiers Australia, a free-speech advocacy group, said the proposal vastly extends the scope of items considered used for copyright theft. Instead of being limited to commercial machines like printing presses, the group said, the proposal would cover personal devices like video players, music players and home computers.

Another section "would arguably make distribution of copyright material via the Internet a criminal offense, even where the person responsible had not intended such distribution to occur," the group said.

UTube Sues YouTube Over Web Traffic

PERRYSBURG, Ohio -- An industrial products company in Ohio with the domain utube.com is suing video giant YouTube over Web surfers who are mistakenly visiting the utube.com Web site.

The Toledo company called Universal Tube and Rollform Equipment -- which has a Web address of utube.com -- recently filed a lawsuit against youtube.com.

Universal Tube said its Web site is now jammed with more than 100 times the traffic it used to get. .
